Where does one turn for snow when it's scarce or nonexistent in the Alps or East Coast?
Why...Head to the Rockies and Utah's The Canyons where you'll almost always find several feet of powder and packed snow.
You'll find yourself high in the Rockies in less time than it takes you to drive to Sugarloaf in Maine from New York City.
Be a part of this incredible opportunity to become part of the most dramatic ski resort development ever undertaken in the United States. And when it comes to on-mountain real estate, the quality of the ski experience is as important as the quality of the property.
Skiers know that American Skiing Company resorts are the leaders in resort operations; so prospective Park City buyers can buy with a lot of confidence.
The Canyons Resort village development occurred in three areas at The Canyons - in the base village, mid-mountain in the Red Pine Canyon area, and in a Lower Village along The Canyons' access road.
Resort amenities include a golf course, skating rivers, an amphitheater, a people mover, restaurants and entertainment venues.
These facilities will receive significant funding support from a SPA-wide village management association. Additional lifts and trails are also approved, which will make The Canyons the largest ski resort in the United States.
The 7,000-acre property spreads along a ridgeline, no less than a 13-mile ridge, strategically placed between Utah Winter Sports Park, site of ski-jumping events in the 2002 Winter Olympics, and Park City Mountain Resort, site of many Olympics downhill events.
Ownership at The Canyons provides convenient access to world class four-season recreation at one of the premier destination resorts in North America, as well as the opportunity to participate in vacation flexibility worldwide, says Canyons realtor and savvy investor, Angus Beavers.
And with Park City's Quick START (Ski Today and Ride Today) plan, you can convert your airline-boarding pass into same-day lift tickets.
The Canyons in Park City consists of 8 different mountains and 3,625 acres of pristine, Utah wilderness.
The Canyons is now the 5th largest ski resort in the United States and it is part of a 7,000-acre jointly planned area that includes 30 Park City property owners.
The size of the project is beyond belief, but the American Skiing Co. has gone about it with the proper respect for open space, a dwindling commodity in Park City and the surrounding Snyderville Basin. The Canyons will include almost 1,000 acres of conservation easements and a network of public trails.
Since buying the resort over 10 years ago, American Skiing Co. has invested over $50 million, adding lifts, ski runs, including European-style lodges at mid-mountain, a chapel, a gym, an amphitheater and arts center and an 18-hole public golf course.
The publicly held Maine-based company also operates Maine's Sugarloaf and Sunday River resorts; New Hampshire's Attitash ski area; Vermont's Killington, Pico Mountain and Mount Snow; and Colorado's Steamboat resort.
The Canyons has not spared a dime with its opulence and good looks. And it has come a long way since it’s beginning. Most Park City residents were thrilled when The Canyons submitted its final development plans, proposing a dramatic turn-around for the once-troubled ski area, known in past lives as Wolf Mountain and Park West.
It was great to see a credible developer come in and help bring the Canyons Resort to a level of prominence and stability," says Canyons realtor, Angus Beavers.
"The resort has languished for over 30 years. It is about time." Had the resort been in an incorporated town, it would have qualified as a redevelopment project before American Skiing Co. bought it, said Angus. "I've always hoped somebody would come in and make it luxurious. It had all the bones but the money wasn't there.
And what's happened to Park City in the last 10 years is also mesmerizing. It has become one of the most sought -after small towns in America."
The slope side location of the village at The Canyons makes this an incredibly attractive site. So if you are an active outdoors-person and enjoy the best of the west and want to own a piece of this fabulous resort community then The Canyons is for you.
The Canyons is an excellent place to take children. They still can eat for free in a few restaurants, and they can, if they don't want to ski, go to a state licensed childcare center conveniently located in the Grand Summit. The cost is $95 for a full day - 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For skiing wee ones, there are several ski school options, starting at age 2.
The Canyons also introduced Nickelodeon and the Canyons Winter Fest events for the first time this year. They included popular appearances by characters SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer, unfortunately not on skis. For more mature audiences, there is live music on select evenings and excellent dining on all evenings at the Cabin Club, which features low lighting in the log-cabin-like interior. The food is excellent and delightfully heavy on Western themes such as buffalo-and-venison potpie, Utah trout and tenderloin of buffalo.
